According to reports, the doc will feature a special line-up of celebrities including Mary J. Blige, MC Lyte and Will Smith.

The hour-long documentary includes interviews and testimonies from entertainment heavyweights including Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Brett Ratner, MC Lyte, and more. Viewers will hear stories about the late rapper from his family and other artists who formed early hip-hop including Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane and Kurtis Blow. Interviews include Queen Latifah reflecting on Heavy D as a mentor and Will Smith discussing their early beginnings together in hip-hop and Hollywood. Fans will experience how his music impacted hip-hop and pioneered the way for other MCs, and will also enjoy performance footage including Heavy D’s last televised performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards on October 11, 2011. Last month, Terror Squad leader Fat Joe reflected on Heavy D’s unexpected passing last fall.

“It was a sad occasion when Heavy D passed. He’s somebody I look up to. He was a mentor, somebody who really inspired me growing up,” Joe said in an interview. “Being a big person Heavy D was doing it so big I’ve always admired him so it was a sad note — I had confidence. I felt like I was looking at TV and I seen a guy Heavy D and I’m Fat Joe from The Bronx. And I was dancing like him and it made me feel confident about myself. In late December, Heavy’s cause of death was finally revealed.

An autopsy performed on rapper Heavy D, who collapsed and died suddenly on Nov. 8, found that the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism, according to the report released Tuesday. The coroner’s office found that Dwight Arrington Myers, better known as Heavy D, died of a blood clot in his lung. He also suffered from deep leg vein thrombosis and heart disease. The blood clot was “most likely formed during an extended airplane ride,” said Craig Harvey, chief of the Los Angeles County department of coroner. The rapper had recently returned from a trip to London. (Los Angeles Times)

Around mid-November, initial autopsy results were inconclusive.

Results of a post-mortem into the death of rapper Heavy D have been inconclusive in determining why he died last week. The Los Angeles coroner’s office has deferred judgment on how the rapper died suddenly at the age of 44. Last week, a coroner’s spokesman said there were no illegal drugs found in his Beverly Hills home. Toxicology results have not yet been released. Heavy D’s funeral takes place near New York on Friday. Heavy D died on 8 November after being found unconscious at his Los Angeles home. (BBC)

Chris Brown and Rihanna are back together, musically speaking. Two songs featuring the singers hit the Internet on Monday. Brown sings on the remix of Rihanna’s sexually charged song “Birthday Cake,” and she’s on the remix of his upbeat tune “Turn Up the Music.” Brown tweeted a link to the new version of “Turn Up the Music” on Monday, and Rihanna later retweeted it. Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, told Esquire magazine in its October 2010 issue that she no longer resented Brown and that she enjoys his music. The two singers first collaborated musically in 2007 on the remix to her monster hit Umbrella. Brown also tweeted “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN” to Rihanna, who turned 24 on Monday. A few days ago, reports of RiRi and Brown reuniting on a remix to “Birthday Cake” hit the Internet.

It’s one of the most-talked about songs on Rihanna’s Talk That Talk, and it’s barely a minute long. Now, “Birthday Cake” — 78 titillating seconds of school bells, handclaps and engines gunning — is set to get a full-length reboot. But according to co-producers Da Internz, the featured guest on the remix will be more than just icing. “We got the Rihanna ‘Birthday Cake’ coming out in a week,” a bespectacled Kosine told MTV News on the red carpet of the Pepsi-sponsored ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Brunch, held over the Grammy weekend. “It’s gonna be crazy,” his production partner, Tuo, said shaking his head. Along with being excited for D’Angelo’s return, Slim considered what type of approach the singer would take in his new music.

“Think about what he’s brought to the game. I know young heads might not really know about that sound and that feel, but it was like a real, I don’t even know how you can describe it. He was the epitome of hip-hop and R&B to me. It was a raw feel of actual soul, real hip-hop. They were mixed in together. That whole sound, I kind of miss it,” Slim told SOHH. “It was like the Angie Stone-type feel. It’s a breath of fresh air and for me, I’m definitely a fan of all types of music. I love it when somebody can bring it back and I’m just really, really interested in what type of spin he’s going to put into it. In late January, D’Angelo was spotted performing live overseas for the first time in over a decade.

Earlier today, D’Angelo performed live at Filadelfiakyrkan (Google translation: Pentecostal Church) in Stockholm. A fan filmed the eight-minute video above, capturing the tail end of “Devil’s Pie” and a long, head-banging version of “Chicken Grease.” The Stockholm show is the first of 11 D’Angelo will perform on his European D-Tour, which runs through February. In December, The Roots’ Questlove spoke on him heading overseas and being nearly finished with an upcoming solo album.

“He goes to Europe in January. The album is pretty much 97% done. He’s just finishing his lyrics now. We connected our movements. It’s 2012 and we saw the artists that have been successful recently.
